In 2001 for our vacation, we
went on a unplanned road trip. We just jumped
on the interstate and drove north. We made it
to:
Florida, Georgia, South Carolina,
North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Washington
DC, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New
York.
New York and New Jersey
-
While we were in New Jersey,
we visited with an online friend, Parry Aftab.
She had just gotten back from a trip to Singapore
on business. We did not know it when we called
her to tell her we were in the area, but she had
an appearance at a school to talk about internet
safety. We video taped the younger students and
got a few good pictures of the older students
while we were there. While we were visiting Parry,
we got a chance to see some of the beautiful sites
of New York and New Jersey. From Parry's house
you could see a great panoramic view of Manhattan.
At sunrise, her view looks like a post card.
The next day, we went to the
Statue of Liberty, what else are southerners going
to do when they to the north? We went from the
Jersey side of the river and got a picture of
the view from the parking lot of the Fairy that
took us to Ellis Island and Liberty Island. We
also got a great shot of Lady Liberty herself.
Pennsylvania -
TwinAngel is also a friend from
online that visited us when she was in our area
in late 2000. So we couldn't pass up the opportunity
to see her again when we went to her area. TwinAngel's
house is on a lake that froze over this winter.
(sorry if we sound amazed, we aren't used to snow
and ice) The night that we stayed with her, it
snowed 3 1/2 inches. That is so much more than
either of us have ever seen that the sight was
just amazing. She had some lovely deer that hang
out in her back yard too.
While we did forget to get pictures
of TwinAngel and her husband Ron, we did remember
to get a nice pic of Max, their ever-energetic
pup.
North Carolina -
We are both Nascar fans but Gambler
is kind of a nut about it. He found out we were
going to be passing Mooresville, NC and said we
had to stop at the race shops. We took pics of
all the team signs we saw and even got a few pictures
of some of the cars.
During the final lap of the 2001
Daytona 500, Dale Earnhardt was killed in a crash
in turn four. Two weeks later his shop was still
a place of mourning.
