Tallahassee Florida |
Capitol Complex |
The "New Capitol Building"
is a twenty two story building visable from nearly
anywhere in Tallahassee. At the top of the building
there is a viewing area where you can see for
several miles. In the lower levels of the capitol
building you can see the state seal in brass.
Underneath that state seal is a time capsule that
was placed in 1976 for the nations bicentinal.
Gambler's mother worked for the Bi-Centineal Commission
at the time it was placed. Gambler was photographed
with the artifacts that were left in the time
capsule for the local news paper with previous
governors glasses, pipes and other various items.
Out side the capitol building
is the Old Capitol building which was renovated
and turned into a museum in the early 1980's.
To the west of the capitol building, but still
part of the complex is Kleman Plaza. Kleman Plaza
is where you can find the Challenger Center (NASA)
with Imax theater, and the Museum of Art and Science.
Just a little tid bit about the
capitol building. If you are traveling west on
Appalachee Park Way (US 27) the capitol building
reveals a practical
joke by the architect. It is widley
recognized as one of the most phallic buildings
in the country.
